A family needs help rebuilding their home
hi y’all! you may know me from another recent campaign, one i successfully organized for my friend rola — she obtained her dream thanks to y’all. ❤️ but i couldn’t sit back and congratulate myself when there are still so many palestinians who have been abandoned by nearly every official governing entity both within the region and internationally. i became acquainted with ahmed, a young palestinian man providing for his family, over a number of months and everything he’s told me me has been verified, cross-checked, and accurate.
these are ahmed’s own words:
After 7 years of increasingly heightened Israeli bombardment on Gaza, many Palestinians, including myself, are still struggling to rebuild our lives and homes.
On the night of 7/25/14, Israeli warplanes destroyed my family’s house. While I was able to start rebuilding half of the house, I am now unable to finish due to the lack of financial resources and the harsh conditions imposed on us.
Due to the nearly 15 year blockade on the extremely impoverished Gaza Strip, returning to normal life is a very difficult and humiliating journey for us. The blockade of Gaza is coupled with harsh economic conditions, lack of jobs, water and food, and the hardships that Palestinians in the Strip endure on a daily basis. Recently, the emergence of the pandemic and the spread of Coronavirus in the Strip have exacerbated these harsh realities.
While I was promised compensation to the victims of Gaza, especially for the suffering and destruction of our homes and property, there is currently a financial crisis in the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). They are still unable to pay compensation to this day to those whose homes were bombed in the conflict.
UNRWA’s media advisor Abu Hasna told Shams News that "everything that was reported regarding the payment of the rest of the damage allowance to those affected by the 2014 aggression is unfounded. Because (UNRWA) did not receive the necessary funding for this program."
The situation has significantly worsened after the recent May 2021 Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. Israel bombed hundreds of homes and destroyed the infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. They have prevented the entry of building materials into the Strip and prevented the entry of state aid to help in the reconstruction of what was destroyed by the war, which has made our situation worse and we have lost hope of obtaining the compensation that was promised to us and what we needed to rebuild our destroyed house. We hope and pray for a miracle but the bleak threat of the coronavirus pandemic and deteriorating conditions in Gaza make it difficult to wait with each passing day.
Please consider making a donation today to complete the construction of my family's home, so that we can resume a normal lifestyle and have a refuge over our heads, a comfort, a right, that many Gazans and Palestinians do not have to have under Israeli occupation.
