Help Sandra after Hurricane Ian damaged her house
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Erika Blanco, and I’m writing this post together with my group of childhood friends on behalf of our friend Sandra Reynolds, who almost lost her life and her house for damages by hurricane Ian. I am a resident of Miami Beach, Sandra and I moved at the same time to Florida 22 years ago from our hometown Colombia. We studied together from elementary until our senior years, and we have been friends ever since. Sandra has been working in Naples in the hospitality industry since she moved there. She has worked hard, ascended in her industry, happily found love with a great man, and gave birth to two children. This year had already begun as a very tough and challenging year when her husband had a car accident in February. Due to the incident, Sandra has now become head of the household. This week we almost lost her to huracán Ian. Their house is located in Estero, Florida, right underneath the path of the hurricane, and even though they were ordered to evacuate, Her husband’s medical condition would not allow them to do so, so they decided to stay home. When the storm came, her house started flooding; once the water was 4 feet high, she decided to take her family and go outside. Thankfully a neighbor saw them and took them in his house on higher ground. She and her family are ok, but their house was extensively damaged. She had almost 5’ feet of flood water and sewer water. Everything inside her house was destroyed by the water and a foul smell from the sewer. Her insurance covers her house structure but no contents. We are raising money to help her alleviate the cost of restoring all her essential belongings, like mattresses, beds, sheets, appliances, and some living expenses. She won’t be able to return to her house until it is structurally fixed.
We made a budget that includes essential belongings and a 6-month rent estimate. Prices are based on searches on Target, Walmart, Costco, Home Depot, Zillow and Wayfair. We will update the post with proof of purchases where money has been allocated. The effects of this hurricane will be long-lasting in our Florida community. I ask that we all come together to help in any way we can and to any of those in need.
