A family in dire need in Gaza

I am from Quebec, Canada and originally from Gaza where I still have many relatives. The last few months have been soul-crushing for us.

In Gaza, my aunt Naeema Oweida raised 5 boys on her own as a single mom. Her husband died when her oldest child was only 6 years old. The boys had to work from a young age to help their mother. My aunt is now 70 years old, sick and fragile. She lived with her boys who are now all married and have families of their own. Since October 7th, they have been left to starve like most Gazans and their lives are in imminent danger. In late October they received a warning that their street in the centre of Gaza (Shijaya) will be destroyed. They barely survived as they scrambled to get out of their home which was destroyed. My cousin, Mahmoud Qadoom was the only one with my aunt at that moment. He walked for 5 kms with my aunt along with his wife who has multiple sclerosis as well as his 2 children: Naeema (7 years old) and Adam (6 years old). Eventually they reached a school housing refugees in Khan Younis and later were reunited in the school with my other cousins. In total, they are 32 individuals. Each of my cousins has 2-7 young children. They are in dire need of assistance. They came to the school without winter clothing, without an extra pair of shoes, no blankets and without any cookware. The kids have nothing to play with. My aunt and cousin's wife are sick and access to health care and medicine is difficult.

I never thought I would do this fundraiser, but I can't sit and watch. I have transferred whatever money I could to my cousins who say: without the money I sent, they would be on the streets with no shelter. Their words of grace make me in tears everytime, as I wish I could do more. I want to bring happiness to my cousins' kids who wish they can buy a ball or a toy to play with.

Adam who is 6 years old had his slippers torn and he's been barefoot for a week. Whenever they find someone who is selling food, toys or clothing, they are prohibitively expensive. On top of all this, the shelling is now getting very close to their school and they are looking to move further to the south, but they would need 4 tents at least and each tent is $600 USD.

Therefore, I am pleading to anyone who can help to do so. This money will be used to:

Provide shelter

Buy winter clothing

Provide medicine and healthcare

Provide food

And bring happiness to the children who wish to buy things that can distract them from the sounds of bombing and their continous fear of being killed.

Whatever money remains will be used to rebuild their demolished home, if they live to see that day.

We will update you regularly with photos and how this money is being used to help this large family of 32 members.

À Gaza, ma tante Naeema Oweida a élevé seule 5 garçons en tant que mère célibataire. Son mari est décédé alors que son aîné n'avait que 6 ans. Les garçons ont dû travailler dès leur plus jeune âge pour aider leur mère. Ma tante a aujourd'hui 70 ans, malade et fragile. Elle vivait avec ses garçons qui sont désormais tous mariés et ont leur propre famille. Depuis le 7 octobre, ils meurent de faim comme la plupart des Gazaouis et leur vie est en danger imminent. Fin octobre, ils ont reçu un avertissement indiquant que leur rue au centre de Gaza (Shijaya) serait détruite. Ils ont à peine survécu alors qu’ils se sont précipités pour sortir de leur maison qui a été détruite. Mon cousin, Mahmoud Qadoom était le seul avec ma tante à ce moment-là. Il a marché 5 kms avec ma tante, sa femme atteinte de sclérose en plaques ainsi que ses 2 enfants : Naeema (7 ans) et Adam (6 ans). Finalement, ils ont atteint une école abritant des réfugiés à Khan Younis et ont ensuite été réunis à l'école avec mes autres cousins. Au total, ils sont 32 individus. Chacun de mes cousins a 2 à 7 jeunes enfants. Ils ont cruellement besoin d’aide. Ils sont venus à l’école sans vêtements d’hiver, sans paire de chaussures supplémentaire, sans couvertures et sans ustensiles de cuisine. Les enfants n'ont rien avec quoi jouer. La femme de ma tante et de mon cousin sont malades et l'accès aux soins de santé et aux médicaments est difficile.

Je n'aurais jamais pensé organiser cette collecte de fonds, mais je ne peux pas rester assis et regarder. J'ai transféré tout l'argent que je pouvais à mes cousins qui disent : sans l'argent que j'ai envoyé, ils seraient à la rue, sans abri. Leurs paroles de grâce me font pleurer à chaque fois, car j'aimerais pouvoir faire plus. Je veux apporter du bonheur aux enfants de mes cousins qui souhaitent pouvoir acheter un ballon ou un jouet pour jouer.

Adam qui a 6 ans a eu ses pantoufles déchirées et il est pieds nus depuis une semaine. Chaque fois qu’ils trouvent quelqu’un qui vend de la nourriture, des jouets ou des vêtements, ils leur coûtent un prix prohibitif. En plus de tout cela, les bombardements se rapprochent désormais de leur école et ils cherchent à se déplacer plus au sud, mais ils auraient besoin d'au moins 4 tentes et chaque tente coûte 600 $ US.

C’est pourquoi j’implore tous ceux qui peuvent nous aider à le faire. Cet argent servira à :

Fournir un abri

Acheter des vêtements d'hiver

Fournir des médicaments et des soins de santé

Fournir de la nourriture

Et apportez du bonheur aux enfants qui souhaitent acheter des choses qui peuvent les distraire du bruit des bombardements et de leur peur constante d'être tué.

L’argent qui leur reste sera utilisé pour reconstruire leur maison démolie, s’ils survivent jusqu’à ce jour.
