As a mother, there’s nothing harder than watching your children suffer and not being able to take the pain away. My son-in-law—one of the most hardworking, devoted fathers I know—recently had a terrible accident at work. He fell off a ladder and landed hard on his feet, fracturing two vertebrae in his back. The pain was so intense he was hospitalized for two days, and now he faces months of recovery, wearing a brace and going through physical therapy just to heal.

He is the primary provider for his family, and now he can’t work. They have no safety net.

My daughter—six months pregnant with their second child—is also facing a high-risk pregnancy due to preeclampsia. She’s doing her best to hold everything together, but she’s physically limited and emotionally overwhelmed. On top of that, they have an energetic three-year-old daughter who doesn’t understand why Daddy can’t play with her the way he used to.

They’re scared. We all are. Rent is due. Food and costs are adding more pressure by the day. They need help—just to make it through this storm until he’s well enough to work again.
