For nearly three decades, Jen has lived with a spinal cord injury that left her a quadriplegic in 1997. Despite the daily challenges she faces, Jen has never let her circumstances define her. Instead, she has dedicated her life to advocating for others, building a more accessible and inclusive community, and living as independently as possible.
Mobility has always been a key part of Jen’s independence. For years, her wheelchair-accessible van has allowed her to stay active, connected, and engaged in her community. Unfortunately, her current van is now experiencing significant mechanical issues and is no longer reliable for longer trips. This has greatly limited her ability to get out, attend events, and continue the active life she has worked so hard to maintain.
Jen’s impact on her community has been nothing short of inspiring. In 2000, she served as an Easter Seals Ambassador, raising an incredible $100,000 to support others living with disabilities. Since then, she has continued to be a strong and passionate advocate, speaking out on accessibility issues and the importance of accessible housing.
Her commitment to creating change led her to run as an NDP candidate in 2015, using her lived experience and deep knowledge of disability issues to give a voice to those who are too often overlooked. Jen has also contributed her leadership and insight as a board member of Spinal Cord Injury PEI.
It has been nearly 30 years since Jen last received support to obtain a wheelchair-accessible van. Now, she needs our help. This campaign is an opportunity for our community to come together and give back to someone who has given so much. Please help Jen regain reliable transportation and continue living her life to the fullest.
Every contribution, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference in restoring Jen’s independence and ensuring she can keep advocating, connecting, and thriving.
