Journey to Healing: Support My Double Hip Replacement

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted well wishers,

My name is Sinikiwe Mpofu, but most people call me Nikky. I am just a few months away from turning 50, and yet I am in need of a double hip replacement surgery after being diagnosed with avascular necrosis – a condition where the blood supply to my hip joints has been cut off.

Several years ago, I was diagnosed with a chronic disease, and while the diagnosis was life-changing, I knew I had to make a choice: either take the medication or risk losing my life. I chose life. I began taking the necessary medication and have been doing so for over a decade. But over the years, the side effects have taken a heavy toll on my body, and now I am living with chronic pain that is only getting worse.

The past year has been especially brutal, and after numerous consultations with orthopedic specialists, I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis – a condition where the blood supply to my hip joints has been cut off. As a result, my joints have deteriorated, and I’m left with bone-on-bone friction that causes excruciating pain, making even the simplest movement feel impossible.

The solution, according to my doctors, is a double hip replacement surgery. But that’s just the beginning of a long, uncertain road. I face not only the surgery but months of post-op care, physiotherapy, and rehabilitation before I can hope to walk, run, and play again. The emotional and financial toll this will take on me and my family is overwhelming, and that’s why I’m reaching out for help.

I’ve always been independent, but right now, I need the kindness and support of others. We’re raising funds to cover the costs of the surgery, the medical care, and the extensive rehabilitation I will need to get back on my feet. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make an incredible difference.
