Hi, My name is Maria Dyer, and I am the director of the documentary "The Root."
We began making "The Root" in 2019, filming a group of five courageous people who were willing to share their stories with the world. They were each suffering from different mental disorders: PTSD, trauma, addiction, severe anxiety, and suicidal depression. We followed them on a retreat at the Iboga Wellness Center in Costa Rica where they were given "IBOGA."
Iboga is a root bark that originates from west Africa and is the most complex and powerful psychedelic in the world. It's known in the West for its unique abilities to completely eliminate opiate addiction.
We followed this group of people for a year after the retreat, tracking their progress as they used new tools to navigate old paradigms and face new challenges including CoVid.

We're now at the place where we need a little money to help us finish the edit and get this project out into the world. For everyone involved, this has been a passion project where everything has been done on a volunteer basis. We need an editor to work on this full time for the next few months. We have hundreds of hours of footage that we've compiled over the past year that needs to be processed and five incredible stories of resilience that need to be told.
We truly believe that this is an important story to bring out into the world. After a year and a half spent in lockdown and isolation, more and more people are suffering severe mental health conditions. This treatment may be a light of hope for those that need it most.
Thank you, Maria
