Over a year ago, my beautiful niece Sharon had her life change in a heartbeat. In fact her heart tried a couple of times to stop beating.

She was critically ill, and urgently airlifted to Canberra hospital, and not expected to survive. Her family were told to prepare for the worst including all the unknown side effects of a serious bacterial infection.

Sharon fought against all odds, in an intensive care unit for months.

She has endured more than most of us could ever imagine — months and months and is still in hospital, countless procedures, isolation and life-altering challenges. One thumb required amputation and most recently, Sharon underwent a leg amputation. It’s a loss that has changed her life forever, and one she is still coming to terms with every single day.

Despite everything, Sharon continues to show incredible strength, courage, and faith. She says she can now see a small flicker of light at the end of a very long dark tunnel — but the road ahead is still long and circuitous.

Sharon faces an ongoing journey of recovery, rehabilitation, and learning to live independently again. This includes prosthetics, mobility equipment, home adjustments, and continued medical care .

Through it all, Sharon has been deeply grateful for the love and support surrounding her.

Her beloved shop, Glen Mia in Bega, has kept its doors open, thanks to an incredible team of family and friends and the continued support of the local community she loves so much.

Sharon has given so much to her community and now the supporter needs to be supported.

If you are able to donate, no matter how big or small, you will be helping Sharon:

• Access essential rehabilitation and prosthetic support
• Modify her home for safe and independent living
• Ease the financial burden during her recovery
• Take meaningful steps toward rebuilding her life

If you’re not in a position to donate, sharing this page would mean so much.

Sharon is still here. Still fighting. Still hopeful.

With your support, we can help her take the next steps forward.

Thank you for being part of her journey and for your love, care and understanding.

From her Aunty Rosalie
(Sharon's Mum was my big sister).
