Columbus, Ga. has no dedicated public pickleball courts. Being the 2nd largest city in Georgia, Columbus has a significant opportunity to improve the lives of many. Columbus has over 500+ current players. Public dedicated pickleball courts are needed! The demand heavily outweighs the supply. The Columbus, Ga. Pickleball Association has a plan to meet the demand by building a dedicated pickleball facility here in Columbus, Ga.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!
After 2 years of hard work, we are extremely excited to announce that our plan of a 25+ court dedicated pickleball facility will be at the Columbus Water Works Uptown park at Talbotton and Veterans Pkwy, a FANTASTIC location for its exposure and proximity to Uptown!
A big thank you to The Columbus Water Works who shares our vision of revitalizing this area and creating a facility that has the potential to become a central hub while promoting a healthy AND FUN lifestyle!
With its proximity to Uptown and Pickleball's social nature, this facility will become a connected asset to the synergy of Uptown activities - catering to not only our residents but, to the hundreds of out-of-town players during planned tournaments.
Pickleball is extremely social - unlike any other sport. It's easy to learn, relatively free of age or fitness limitations, and brings people together from all walks of life, creating bridges between people of different ages, ethnicity, socio-economic classes, political, and religious preferences. Its addictive nature gets people out and moving, improving their health.
Facility details:
- At least 25 pickleball courts, 13 of them covered, stadium court(s)
- A small building that will house: a check-in desk, restrooms, showers, lockers, office, concessions, players shop, and storage
- Shipping container bar
- Green space w/ picnic tables
- Ancillary games (Bocce, cornhole, spike ball, etc.)
- Security: fully fenced w/gated entrance
- Court and facility lighting: well-lit for play and security
- Diverse programming: Beginner lessons/events, skill level and open play, round-robins, tournaments, corporate event opportunities, court rental, etc.
Total estimated cost: $8m.
Current funding:
Now that the location has been secured, we can fundraise in earnest. We have the city's support. City Council voted to dedicate $1.7m to the facility. Combine this with current donor (verbal and letter) support, we are at $3m!
