A Daring Debut: A staged reading of a new queer play

Antic Theatre is a Tkaronto-based, queer owned indie theatre company that produces and plays in the fantastical.

A Daring Debut is Antic Theatre's second indie project from the wonderful mind of playwright and Creative Director, Rachel Offer. It is a queer period drama that centres around the love story of two young women in a heteronormative society. Cupid, god of love, invites the audience into their domain to watch as they lead Katherine, an antisocial poet, and Lydia, the most talked about debutante of the season, to one another. The two women wrestle with their own fears as well as familial and societal pressure to find out what they truly want for themselves.

Antic Theatre will be running a handful of workshops with our talented cast that will culminate in a staged reading on February 15th at Tarragon Theatre's Far Studio.

The mission of Antic Theatre is not only to create new and imaginative art, but to provide opportunities for artists to try their hands at new things within the world of theatre production. We have brought on an excellent creative team to assist in bringing this piece to life, including a Costume Designer who will be building a number of costumes from scratch, and a professional Intimacy Coordinator to help our actors safely navigate the physical romance that occurs in this play.

And to ensure that these artists can explore with freedom and support, we at Antic Theatre believe that our artists should be paid.
