A Covid-19 Emergency for Megan and RJ

A covid-19 emergency for this young family.

Our continued healing prayers and benevolent support are needed for this precious family. Geoff (33) and Megan Thompson (32) were diagnosed with covid-19 in early October. Megan became critically ill with covid pneumonia while pregnant with their first baby. She was life-flighted (on 10/13) when a blood clot was discovered in her lung. Admitted to OB ICU at St. V’s Mercy Hospital in Toledo, within 24 hours they had to place her on a ventilator and did an emergency C-section at 26.5 weeks pregnant to save Megan’s life. At 2 pounds 4 ounces, our little Rayland Jacob (RJ) is a strong fighter in the NICU for his family. Megan was transferred to Cardiac ICU and placed on an ECMO machine for survival. The doctors have said she would not have survived without it.  She is showing miraculous signs in the healing process.  The hospital has reported that they are shocked! (Praise God!) Geoff should be able to see them both for the first time soon.

Update 10/23:  Megan is off the ventilator and ECMO machine.  Still healing at the hospital.  She has had four blood transfusions and is being closely monitored while gaining strength.  RJ has a PDA heart murmur (an open hole / valve) that the doctors are closely monitoring.  He remains on the respirator as some of the blood spills over into the lungs until this closes.

Update 10/28:  Megan is doing very well.  A small infection in her blood they are treating with antibiotics.  She is off oxygen most of the time.  RJ is continuing to grow.  The NICU has said to plan that he will be in the hospital until mid-January while he gains weight and grows stronger.

Update 10/31:  Megan is home on a blood thinner (shot in her stomach daily) and antibiotic (IV pic line).  She's resting and gaining strength.  The hospital has proclaimed her recovery is a miracle from heaven.  Praise God.  Little RJ continues to fight for his family.  We need continued prayers for his little heart and lungs to grow stronger.  His ventilator levels and heart murmur are the main focus of our prayers.  God if faithful.  The NICU says to prepare for him to stay until mid January, the original due date.  They will be taking a lot of trips to the hospital.  They need our prayers and continued support.

No one could have predicted this journey for them.
Megan as a teacher, is the main income provider for their family. Geoffrey’s employer terminated his position after their FLMA leave expired with surgeries he needed last year. They had just made the decision he would work from home, caring for their newborn son, starting a business when they both got covid-19 becoming critically ill.

Suddenly, this precious young family has found themselves with zero income and facing huge unexpected medical bills and basic immediate needs. Megan’s maternity leave is based on sick pay and that has now expired. The doctors say there is still significant healing time ahead for both Megan and RJ before being released from the hospital and after.

God is working miracles inside the hospital and this is our opportunity to be a part of one outside of it.
Even a little blessed and multiplied by Jesus will take care of so much.
