A Couple in Jerusalem Need Help To Get Married!

Hachnasat kallah (הַכְנָסַת כַּלָּה, also pronounced hachnosas kallah) literally means “bringing in the bride,” and it refers to the mitzvah of providing bride and groom with all that they need to marry.

The Torah begins with a magnificent example of Hachnosas Kallah, an image of Hashem gladdening Chava’s heart as he carried her to the Chuppa. Following this supreme role model, we want to ensure that this new bride walks to the Chuppa feeling beautiful and confident in her ability to build a beautiful home for Hashem.

Jewish sources indicate that participating in the Mitzvah of Hachnosas Kallah provides a person with many personal benefits. The Jewish sources indicate that Hachnosas Kallah assists one in finding a spouse, being blessed with children, and being saved from life threatening illness.

The Talmud sees this mitzvah, which is done discreetly and without fanfare, as alluded to in Scripture’s call to, “walk humbly with your G‑d.” Hachnasat kallah is listed among those deeds for which we are rewarded during our lifetime, with our primary reward being given to us in the World to Come.

The Code of Jewish law rules that if stewards of communal funds have unallocated funds, they should be earnmarked toward “marrying off orphan maidens, for there is no tzedakah greater than this.”

In modern times, the term hachnasat kallah refers to providing financial support. However, in the times of the Talmud it was (also) used literally, referring to the mitzvah of joining the bridal entourage, lending prestige and joy to the procession that made its way from the bride’s home to the wedding celebration.

Today, we are fundraising for a couple that Rav Dror knows personally. Children of religious families in Israel, and living in Jerusalem - this chatan and kallah are struggling financially. They are older in age and are wonderful souls. Very gentle souls, polite, and with good attributes. They have asked for our help, to be able to respect their families and invite them to join them in the celebration day. They both work full time and just cannot afford the wedding costs and starting a new life together - so let's take the opportunity and help them start a blessed new life.
