If you know David Bazely, you know that helping others is simply who he is.

David is a devoted husband to his wife, Courtney, and a proud father to three young boys—Benny(6) and twins Ollie and Charlie (3). He is a hardworking tradesman, business owner, friend, son, brother, and mentor who has built his life around family, community, and giving back.

David owns and operates Bazely Construction alongside Courtney. They serve Barrie and surrounding communities with residential construction and renovation projects. Building has always been part of David’s life. Raised in a family deeply rooted in the construction industry through Gregor Homes, he learned early on the importance of hard work, integrity, and helping those in need.

David’s story is about much more than building homes.

From the time he was a young boy, David could often be found working alongside his family on community projects and charitable builds. While many children spent weekends at home, David spent countless hours helping raise money, donating his time, and supporting causes that would improve the lives of others.

Whether it was swinging a hammer, organizing fundraising efforts, donating materials, mentoring others, or simply showing up when someone needed help, David has always been the person people could count on.

Today, David and his family are the ones who need our help.

Over the past few months, David has been facing a serious and ongoing medical battle. Despite extensive testing, an almost 2 week hospital stay (with his time being admitted still unknown) and countless medical investigations, doctors have not yet been able to provide a diagnosis.

The uncertainty has been overwhelming.

While answers remain elusive, the reality is that David’s health has significantly impacted his ability to work & care for his family. David remains in hospital at this time while his medical team continues to work around the clock to identify his illness so that they can provide treatment.

As anyone who has experienced a complex medical journey understands, the financial burden can quickly become overwhelming. As business owners during their busiest season of the year, time away from work has quickly added up (with time off unknown). This paired with travel expenses, testing, treatments, and everyday household costs continue to mount while David and his family focus on finding answers and moving forward one day at a time.

For a family that has spent so much of their lives giving to others, asking for help does not come easily.

We are creating this fundraiser to support David, Courtney, Benny, Ollie, and Charlie during this incredibly difficult chapter. Every donation will help ease the financial pressures they are facing and allow them to focus on what matters most—David’s health and his recovery.

David has spent his life helping build homes, communities, and opportunities for others. He has shown up whenever someone was in need, without ever expecting anything in return.

David's Medical situation

In late April 2026, after working outside all day at a jobsite, David noticed that he had been bitten by a tick. As there was no obvious sign of infection (no bulls-eye rash, tick was not engorged), David continued on with his busy life.

Starting in mid May David became very fatigued and slept a lot more than usual. As the days went on this snowballed into even higher levels of exhaustion, at which point he made an appointment with a family clinic to discuss his symptoms and request bloodwork. All bloodwork came back clear.

Following the initial bloodwork, David requested tick borne illness testing and he was tested with the ELISA test. A week following this, around the last week of June/July he collapsed after coming home from work and they called an ambulance. The emergency department at RVH checked his heart and his bloodwork and they said his readings were fine so they sent him home.

David also received a negative result on the ELISA test for Lyme around this time.

On July 2nd, they returned to the hospital due to even more instances of David collapsing, which they have since deemed “episodes”. David isn't losing consciousness - he is losing motor control of his body. When these “episodes” occur he is unable to speak or move his body, but cognitively he is aware and is able to hear what's going on around him.

RVH performed a Cat Scan at this time as well as an abdominal ultrasound; he was discharged after 18 hours as nothing “critical” was found on any testing.

On July 7th he collapsed multiple times within the same hour and at this point the family tried to request more tick borne testing across the border without luck. They drove back, straight to St. Mikes Hospital in Toronto where David has been admitted for almost 2 weeks.

David has since undergone numerous tests with teams of doctors/specialists working on his case. His episodes happen frequently throughout the day, and have not subsided. He's had MRI’S, CT scans, ultrasounds, numerous blood draws. He's been tested for many autoimmune conditions, potential tumors, many other diseases, bacterial infections and so forth.

What they have found in his blood work is a severe low level of cortisol - so they know his adrenals are not producing hormones properly - but they are still trying to figure out the cause of this. His body is not responding to the cortisol treatment at this time.

The family is awaiting results for another tick borne illness called Anaplasmosis through PCR testing. They are also investigating and seeking options for independent more well-rounded testing centers for tick-borne illnesses which may be international and come at a cost should they continue to be met with dead ends in the current hospital testing system.

As of today the endocrinology team is looking into the possibility of David having Hemochromatosis. Hemochromatosis is an iron overload disease that could be flooding his pituitary gland with too much iron and thus affecting its ability to function properly. The family is awaiting results which could take a couple of days.
