Our school is a newcomer program that provides a warm welcome to students in middle and high school who are new to the country. Our students are 100% SLIFE, which means they have limited or interrupted formal education.
Our school goal is to teach English Language Learners not only the English language, but also academic and social skills, which will promote successful future academic and social endeavors.
As as a way to practice and learn about giving back to our community, we have developed a project, "Blankets of Comfort" to show students that whether alone or as a group, we can influence our community, give back, and be active members in our society. We will be making no-sew fleece blankets for hospitals and other organizations in Worcester.
Since our students are new to the country and not financially settled, we cannot ask them for donations to buy the materials. We are raising money for the supplies (fleece fabric, etc.) we will need to complete our project. We hope that you'll consider helping us so that we can share our overall message of giving back to our community. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."
