Hi, my name is Sebby Adams.
I have a rare chromosome makeup that means I am unique and have a ridiculous number of health conditions that I live with. Life is challenging and limited. My physical immobility means that I require my carers to transfer and move me between all aspects of my day to day life. This means I use a wheelchair to get to/from school, round town and on walks in the local area. I love to travel about in cars (my photo is me in my car), however, I really need my own wheels to help me manage my health and happiness better.
I am looking to raise some money to fund my perfect functional wheelchair that fits my complex needs. This will be used every day to be mobile, yet comfortable, between activities.
I have been told by the NHS that my current small wheelchair (attached photo) is the only type of chair available (I have been using the same model for 4 years now). But it is absolutely uncomfortable, unsupportive and has now given me postural scoliosis. I hate travelling in it and can be quite verbal when mummy puts me into it as there is very little cushioning and I can feel all the mechanics along my back and even the shoulder straps dig in so much and make me slouch and lean forward curving my spine. There is absolutely no support when I sleep (my sleep apnoea means I nod off in the chair every day) and I get neck/back pain after I have fell asleep slumping forward. This chair is used every day to travel to school and home, around school and to and from appointments and even out and about at weekends (when I am not in my off road buggy in the countryside on an adventure). It should be practical for day to day functional activities yet comfy to suit my complex sensory and physical needs.
My mummy and daddy really would like to help to get me a new wheelchair and thanks to our postcode we are not eligible unless we fund it ourselves. Seeking charity funding is a lengthy process and this is something we are doing to replace my standing frame (I have outgrown the one we fundraised for in 2018 the last time mummy and daddy raised money for me). The chair of my dreams would include full cushioning, postural support and tilt to allow me maximum comfort yet costs over £5,000 which is totally out of reach ourselves.
None of us are happy about having to use gofundme to raise the money for my new wheelchair (without a crazy race to back us like the Jurassic coast 100km of 2018), however, we really hope enough people out there could possibly support us so that our dream could come true for Christmas. Life is tough enough and we are grateful for anyone reading this to the end and especially anyone that donates anything at all.
We all thank you so much.
Lots of love from us all.
