Vision is one of life's most precious gifts. It allows us to experience the faces of those we love, the beauty of the world around us, and the countless moments that shape our lives. Most of us seldom think about our eyesight until we are faced with the possibility of losing it.

For my dear friend Alonso Espinoza, vision is not only precious—it is essential.

As a professional comic book colorist and artist, Alonso's livelihood depends upon his ability to see. Every page he works on, every color he chooses, every shadow, highlight, and subtle detail requires the gift of sight. Through his talent and dedication, he has helped bring stories to life for readers, transforming line art into the vibrant worlds that comic fans know and love.

Today, that gift is under threat.

Alonso has been diagnosed with Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy, a serious eye disease that is damaging his vision. His doctors have recommended urgent treatment, including intraocular injections and laser therapy, to prevent further deterioration and help preserve his eyesight.

The tragedy is that effective treatment is available, but it comes at a cost that is simply beyond Alonso's means.

The immediate medical expenses exceed $3,000 USD—an amount that may seem manageable to some, but for a working artist already facing significant challenges, it represents a barrier that cannot be overcome alone.

Alonso is not asking for a handout. He is asking for a chance—a chance to protect his vision, continue his work, and keep doing what he has devoted his life to doing: creating art.

Having already overcome tremendous hardship by escaping the Regime of Nicholas Maduro in Venezuela and rebuilding his life through determination, talent, and perseverance in Peru, Alonso and his wife now face another battle, one that every artist would dread.
