A Tribute by Jimmy Murphy

Hello Everyone,

As everyone is now aware, my mate Brian Boggild sadly lost his fight with the Corona virus in the early hours of last Sunday morning. Here’s my little tribute to him.....

I started work with Brian over 17 years ago when he transferred from Hightown station and we hit it off straight away. We both had a similar sense of humour and love for our football teams (his being the wrong one) and also passionate about our families too. I have the privilege of knowing all of Brian’s wonderful children and fabulous grandchildren.

Brian also was a hit with his new customers too. As he was a local to the area, his children had gone to school with most of them or their parents knew him. He took the time to engage on a personal level with them and you could see that it was totally genuine.

Nothing was too much trouble and when you asked him for a favour. Straight away, it’d be “Yes, what?” never questioning or moaning.

It was common knowledge that he also loved his holidays. I nicknamed him ‘Judith Chalmers’ (for the younger colleagues, Google it.) Even to the point where even all of our customers knew and were asking him where he was going next and when (it’s a good job some of them weren’t burglars!)

Brian encapsulated all of Merseyrail’s   ‘core values’, which has been endorsed by the numerous well wishers either on Facebook or Twitter, entries placed by family members and customers in their droves after he tragically passed away .

I cannot imagine what my life will be like without him in it but it’s not about me, it’s about Brian.

•  Please, stick to all the advice given about this horrendous virus and keep up your fantastic regimes of regularly wiping down areas of high contact with the wipes and spray provided.

I’ll sign off with this beautiful quote from George Eliot which sums Brian to a tee from one of our distinguished authors of the area Frank Cottrell-Boyce put on Twitter…
