Hi, I'm Coach Tony Zhang, an Olympics pistol shooting coach based in Burnaby, BC. Coaching in Sport Shooting is my passion, and I'm so grateful for every athlete who has trusted me with their journey — now I'm humbly asking for your help with mine.
I have been coaching since 2023 on volunteering basis for 10m and 25m pistols at 4 local clubs. I have obtained the following qualifications over the past two years.
- International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) C licensed Pistol Coach
- Coaching Association of Canada National Coach Certification Program (NCCP) Certified Competition Development Pistol Coach
My athletes have competed across North America and on the international stage achieved remarkable results including:
- One 1st place, one 2nd place and one 3rd place, Women Air Pistol Junior, and one 2nd place Women Air Pistol Junior Team, 2026 Intershoot, Hague, the Netherlands.
- 1st place, Women Air Pistol, 2025 Canada Air Gun Grand Prix, Cookstown, On, Canada
- 1st and 2nd place, Women Air Pistol, 2025 Canadian Junior Air Gun National Championships, Cookstown, On, Canada
- 3rd place, 25m Pistol, 2025 Canadian National Championships, Cookstown, On, Canada
And many have claimed titles in provincial and local matches and working towards national level. Watching them grow and succeed is honestly the greatest reward I could ask for.
Beyond coaching, I've had the privilege of serving as the Pistol Director of the BC Target Shooting Association since 2024, and previously as the PTSO Director of the Shooting Federation of Canada from 2023 to 2025. These roles have deepened my commitment to growing the sport here in Canada.
But to truly be there for my athletes, I need one more piece: the ISSF-B coaching license — the minimum requirement under ISSF rules to coach on the field at international competitions. Without it, I can only watch from the stands while my athletes compete at the highest level.
To earn it, I need to complete a 13-week online course, pay the 2,900 euro course fee, plus the travel expenses as well as loss of income (I work full time as a supply chain specialist) for 8 days to Finland attending the course. The cost – expected close to CA$10,000 - is a big impact for someone who is volunteering and not get paid for coaching.
Any contribution, big or small, means the world to me and to the athletes and families who have put their trust in our little community. Thank you so much for your support.
