A Christmas Miracle for LaToyia and Her Kids

Hi everyone,

My name is LaToyia, and these are my beautiful daughters. I never imagined I would be writing something like this, but right now, I am asking for help to keep my family safe and off the streets.

For the past 12 years, we lived in a tax-subsidized apartment in San Jose, California. Three years ago, my ex-husband and I separated. He had been the head of household while I stayed home raising our children for over a decade. Transitioning overnight into a single mother—financially responsible for five children—was overwhelming, but I did everything I could. I enrolled in every assistance program available and fought to keep stability for my kids.

Over the past year, we began having serious issues with our apartment management. I fought relentlessly to keep our home—communicating constantly, documenting everything, and eventually representing myself in court twice to prevent eviction. The property owners brought in attorneys, and despite my efforts, the imbalance became impossible to overcome.

This week—the week before Christmas—the judge granted repossession of our apartment. I stayed up all night preparing a 120-page evidence packet to defend my family, but it wasn’t enough. We are now waiting for the sheriff to post a lock-out notice on our door.

Emergency housing assistance in the Bay Area is extremely limited due to the homelessness crisis. Waitlists are long, and many families have been waiting far longer than we have. At the same time, rental prices are staggering—one-bedroom apartments are renting for around $3,000 per month, plus first month’s rent and deposit, which is completely out of reach for us right now.

I am currently out of work due to additional hardships stemming from my divorce. I share joint custody of my two youngest daughters, who attend school 22 miles away, over the Santa Cruz Mountains. Every school day, I drive 88 miles round trip to make sure they can attend. Between the commute, gas costs, and ongoing legal obligations, holding a traditional day job has not been possible.

To survive, I began working as a content creator and spiritual therapist in June. While I am building this with everything I have, anyone familiar with social media knows it takes time before it becomes financially sustainable.

Right now, time is something we do not have.

We are facing homelessness during the holidays, and I am doing everything in my power to protect my children. Any support—whether through donations, sharing this fundraiser, or kind words—means more than I can express.

We are hoping for a Christmas miracle—one that helps us secure shelter, cover basic necessities, and give us the chance to rebuild.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting us in any way you can.

With gratitude,
LaToyia
