Join us as we raise funds for the incredible Struck Family!
Background: 5 years ago, while pregnant with Luke and Elizabeth, Sarah was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She underwent treatment throughout the pregnancy and in January 2015, she delivered the healthy babies. A few weeks after delivery, Sarah was back at the hospital with some blood clots and then heart failure. In April 2015, the doctors placed an LVAD (left ventricular assist device) in Sarah to help keep her heart going and proceed with cancer treatments. Fast forward 4.5 years, Sarah continues to have her LVAD and all signs point to her heart healing and improving.
Current: After some recent blood clots, Sarah's doctors have determined that either an explant or exchange of her LVAD is needed. The surgery will take place Monday, December 23. Their plan is to remove Sarah's existing LVAD (heart pump) and see if her heart is strong enough to do all the work. This is our prayer and the best outcome. However, the doctors will have a new and improved LVAD on hand in case they determine during the surgery that an exchange of devices is best. We are all hopeful and have faith that this surgery will be a big step in Sarah's road to recovery.
As many of you know, any sort of heart surgery is no small task. Sarah will likely be in the hospital for a few weeks. Scott has taken FMLA (not paid) with his employer to be by Sarah's side and help manage the day-to-day tasks at home with the kids.
Many friends and family members have asked how they can help the Struck family during this season. With Scott being on unpaid leave, a financial blessing will help the family stay afloat on their monthly expenses and help relieve the burden of some upcoming medical bills.
Thank you in advance for your support of the Struck family!
Please use this Go Fund Me page to make a donation of any size. If you feel more comfortable giving through another payment avenue (Zelle, Check, Golden Galleons), here is some information. If you have any other questions, feel free to reach out to Scott or Sarah's brother, Jacob.
