Help Save My Son Yousef

Dear Friends,
I know you've likely come across countless campaigns and may feel overwhelmed by the many stories of need. But I hold on to the hope that you might find it in your heart to help me. My name is Samer Foad. I’m 33 years old — a father, a former English language teacher, and once a proud small business owner from Gaza.
Before the war, I lived a stable, dignified life. I had my own beautiful home, my own car, a growing company selling nutritional supplements, and a respected teaching position at UNRWA schools. I worked hard to build a future for my children — a future filled with education, opportunity, and comfort. But in an instant, that life was shattered.

The war took everything: my house, my business, my school, and my sense of normalcy. Now, we live in a tent in a refugee camp, surrounded by devastation. I no longer spend my days teaching or managing my company — I spend them searching for clean drinking water and any food I can find to keep my children alive.
This campaign began as an urgent plea to save the life of my 3-year-old son, Yousef, who suffers from a severe and rare liver condition called grade VI esophageal varices, caused by a clot in his portal vein. His condition is extremely dangerous — it causes him to suddenly vomit large amounts of blood, and every episode brings him closer to death. He was scheduled for surgery, but it was canceled due to the war.

The danger looms as long as the clot remains, blocking the vein and worsening his condition. Yousef must undergo a specialized surgery to remove the clot and address the esophageal varices. This surgery is the only way to save his life and prevent the recurring risk of fatal bleeding.

Yousef’s fragile body cannot survive this much longer.
Every night, I lie awake next to my children, listening to their stomachs growl from hunger. My 1-month-old baby cries for milk we can’t find. We walk miles in the burning sun, hoping for a few liters of clean water. The fear of losing a child — to hunger, to sickness, to war — never leaves my heart. I used to protect my family with my job and my strength. Now I am begging the world to help me do what I no longer can on my own.
I’m attaching several photos that tell our story more clearly than words ever could:

Me in my office before the war, and the same company in ruins after being bombed.

A moment of pride — me being honored as a distinguished English teacher — and the same school reduced to rubble.

Me carrying Yousef inside our home, and now, carrying him again inside a hot, crowded tent.

Our beautiful home — once a symbol of peace — now just a pile of rubble.

I’ve launched this campaign to raise enough funds to evacuate Yousef to Egypt for surgery and to cover our most basic needs: medical tests, medication, and enough food and shelter to survive
