I am reaching out on behalf of a wonderful work colleague to share the heartfelt story of their courageous son’s journey. Right now, he is at UST Hospital, recovering from a critical surgery to remove choledochal cysts. This complex procedure, known as excision of the choledochal cyst type with Roux-en-Y hepaticojejunostomy, has been a challenging ordeal for their family.
Their journey began on January 1, when they noticed his eyes turning yellow. Alarmed and concerned, they rushed him to the hospital, where doctors discovered a cyst on his bile duct close to his liver, causing severe jaundice. Immediate surgery was recommended to save him.
However, their trials did not end there. During his hospital stay, he contracted pneumonia, which delayed the surgery until he was treated for it. This unforeseen complication added to their financial burdens, as certain medical expenses were not covered by the HMO card, forcing them to pay out-of-pocket for doctors’ fees and clearances. Despite these obstacles, his condition worsened, turning his eyes and entire body yellow and causing severe stomach pain.
After weeks of struggle and immense worry, he was finally cleared for surgery on February 4. The surgery took place earlier than anticipated due to his deteriorating condition. The surgeons had to adjust their plan mid-operation, as the cysts were also affecting his gall bladder, necessitating its removal.
Post-surgery, he still has a central IV line in his neck for vital medications and a tube in his stomach to drain excess fluids. The surgery was successful, but he remains under close observation.
We are seeking your support to help cover the mounting medical expenses and ensure our colleague’s son’s complete recovery. The family continues to face ongoing medical costs for post-operative care, medications, and regular follow-up visits. Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in their journey towards healing and recovery.
Your kindness and generosity during this difficult time will be immensely appreciated.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
