Recently, I ran into somebody that I have not seen in years. While it did shock me to see him so different, I also learned that he has been homeless for over a year. I bought him lunch that day, gave him a ride, and gave some cash. He has barely a dollar to his name. He has lost everything he had in a storage unit due to being unable to pay, including the ashes of his father who passed several years ago. He has no family left here to help him. He has tried to find work, but no one gives him the light of day due to his disheveled physical appearance from being sleep deprived, hungry and having limited means to bathe himself. He has always been a great guy and never caused trouble. Working with him in my family’s business growing up he was honest and hard working. He has no drug or alcohol addictions. The best way I can describe him is a child at heart who will never ask for a handout. He could go to a shelter, but it’s not safe. Any possessions can get stolen and have gotten stolen. Social services are not much help at all. He collects cans, but those often get stolen too without a place to stash his bags. He expressed his desire to move out of Connecticut and move to a more affordable location where he has some extended family. Let’s help get him back on his feet!
Hopefully, enough funds are raised to cover:
- Six months of rent
- Food/Basic needs
- Driver's License Test
- Used Vehicle (to get to work)
- Car Insurance, Registration fees, gas
All of this in hopes he can restart his life in another place. He is not aware I am setting this up. I do not want to say or share any personal information since he did not give consent. He is in dire need especially with winter approaching. With any funds raised I will give him the choice to disclose or express whatever he chooses.
