A child with NDMA-autoimmune encephalitis "brain on fire".
Donation protected
My friend's 8-year-old daughter Evelyn Colgrave has just been diagnosed with NDMA-antoimmune encephalitis "brain on fire" https://www.encephalitis.info/types-of-encephalitis/autoimmune-encephalitis/ Previously a bright, happy and energetic child, she has lost all cognitive functions and has been in the Hobart Royal Hospital since late November 2024. Before being transferred to Hobart she had some over night stays at the Launceston General Hospital and the Sunshine Hospital. Due to the family living in Launceston, Evie's dad has been staying at the Royal with her while her mum drives down to Hobart for visits. Evie's younger 4-year-old brother Nicky has Level 3 autism and is non-verbal which is why her mum needs to remain the main caregiver. Between December 14th - 20th Evie was in ICU in and out of medically induced comas as she was still having seizures. She is now unable to walk and has a specialised wheelchair. This has been devastating for the family and close friends, her brain's swelling has not reduce and the last steroid treatment was last week. If this still doesn't work they are going to start a treatment used for Leukeamia. The funds will be going towards travel expensives, food, accomodation when the Ronald McDonald house is full and any special needs equipment she may need moving foward. If you are interested in learning more please watch this film.
**UPDATE**
Evie has taken a few steps by herself and has started very basic verbal communitcation - by mimicking.
Thank you for the ongoing support - the family are so thankful.
