My name is Sonia, and I am writing to you from my home in California. Like many of you, I scroll through stories from Gaza every day, feeling a mix of heartbreak and helplessness and compelled to act. That is why I am starting this fundraiser.
I am raising funds on behalf of Daood Eid, an 18-year-old young man from the Al-Bureij refugee camp in the southern Gaza Strip. I came across Daood’s story on Instagram , shared by mutual connections in the region. Though we have never met, his story and his family’s profound need left an indelible mark on me, and I knew I could not look away.
Before this war, Daood was studying for his high school finals in Gaza, dreaming of a future where he could study abroad. As the eldest of four siblings, he was a pillar for his family—helping to provide and protect.
Now, everything has changed.
On August 13, 2025, after his family was forced to flee their home, Daood returned with his cousin to check on what remained. He found only destruction; his family’s home had been demolished by the Israeli forces. On the journey back, an explosion tore through their path. Tragically, Daood’s cousin was killed instantly. Daood survived, but he lost both of his legs.
In Gaza, where the healthcare system has been shattered, survival is a battle in itself. Daood has not received proper medical treatment or ongoing care. Daood is in need of physical therapy and rehabilitation and prosthetic limbs, all of which are nonexistent in Gaza. His recovery has been excruciating, worsened by the dire scarcity of food, water, and safe shelter. His family, once stable, is now struggling for daily survival. His family carries the immense weight of caring for Daood in unimaginable conditions. Once their provider, he now depends on them for everything. He has lost half his body weight and endures deep physical and emotional distress.
Yet, in the midst of this darkness, Daood holds onto one hope: the chance to walk again, to reclaim a fragment of the life he knew.
His dream is simple and profound—to receive proper medical attention and prosthetic limbs. To have the opportunity to heal, to stand, and to one day support his family again.
I am fundraising to give Daood that chance. We can help lift the burden of medical uncertainty and offer him a path toward recovery and dignity.
How Your Support Will Help
Every dollar raised will be directed entirely to Daood Eid and his immediate family. Funds will be allocated for:
1. Urgent Medical Care: Covering costs for surgeries, wound care, antibiotics, and pain management.
2. Prosthetic Limbs: Funding for assessment, fitting, and procurement of functional prosthetics.
3. Rehabilitation: Physical therapy and psychological support when accessible.
4. Basic Survival Needs: Secure shelter, nutritious food, clean water, and essential supplies for his family.
Please, if you are able, contribute to give Daood the chance he deserves—to heal, to stand, and to dream again. No amount is too small. If you cannot donate, sharing this campaign is an incredible act of support.
Thank you for your compassion, your generosity, and for helping to write a new chapter in Daood’s story.
With hope and gratitude,
Sonia
