Hi there! My name is Greg. I'm a long-time friend of Sara's, and I'm
going to tell you a little bit about her family, and why they need your
help.
Sara and Matt have a "Brady Bunch" blended family with four school-
aged children living at home, and a 21-year-old living in his own home. Sara's the Assistant Director at the KHN Center for the Arts in
Nebraska City. Matt works in IT, commuting to Peru State College.
Sara, in addition to being an artist, writer, and musician, is also on the
board of "Keep Nebraska City Beautiful". Matt is a stand-up comedian
and musician, as well as a long-time Scouts leader.
As often happens in life, they have a confluence of issues that are all
pressing, have all come to a head at once, and all require resources they simply do not have. Of particular note:
- Both Sara and Matt have chronic health issues.
- The medical co-pays for their health issues are such that they are
unable to reliably afford the treatments and medications for their
respective issues.
- One child requires partial home-schooling due to medical issues,
which limits Sara's ability to work an additional job or change jobs.
- All of their medical issues require treatment in Lincoln or Omaha, an
hour away from their home in Nebraska City.
- They need a decent minivan that can meet the needs of a family of
their size. Their current minivan requires repairs that are more than
twice the value of the vehicle, making it untenable for their family.
- Two of their children require braces. Not the "straight teeth" kind.
The "our mouths don't work properly, structurally, and have been
advised by dentists" kind.
- The car that Matt uses to commute to Peru also needs repairs,
in the neighborhood of $1000.00.
- Both Sara and Matt are assisting with elderly parental care, which
requires time, effort, and money.
So... as you can see, they are in a rough place.
Financial fear is a corrosive fear that never really takes a break. And when you're unable to properly care for your family - through no fault of
your own - then it's that much worse.
As someone who was given a break in my past, financially, I can
absolutely empathize with where they're at, and with what outside
help can mean in the bigger picture.
Quite literally, catching a financial break can change everything - stress level, quality of life, hope for the future...
Everything.
My hope is that enough of you will see this story, and feel inspired to
contribute to their urgent needs.
And feel free to share this with any and all who you feel may be in a
position to help.
Thank you,
Greg
