A Chance for Lance - in his Cancer Challenge

Luz Caparas is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Lance Caparas and his family.
My name is Luz Caparas and I am Lance’s aunt. As I have been a nurse for more than 40 years, I witnessed the devastation caused by serious illnesses to patients and their families. Nevertheless, I was not prepared for this tragedy that hit home.
Lance Caparas is 21 years old, my brother’s youngest son and they reside in the Philippines. Lance’s medical journey began in September 2022. He experienced numbness in his left fingertips and toes. He saw a neurologist and as a college student who uses the computer a lot, the numbness of the left fingertips was attributed to carpal tunnel syndrome. Meanwhile, he developed numbness on the right fingertips and mild balance issues. He sought a second opinion from another neurologist who ordered an MRI of the brain. On December 23, 2022, two days before Christmas, Lance and his family received the worst news of their lives. His MRI result came back and showed a brain tumor in an inoperable site. This brain tumor is called DIPG (diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma) which is an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Anyone who has met Lance agrees that he is both shy and charming. He is always considerate and respectful of others. His optimistic outlook won the hearts of many people around him. Lance is a magna cum laude candidate of the graduating class of June 2023 in AB Economics. When Lance’s doctor gave him the diagnosis, Lance’s foremost concern is to finish college. Despite starting chemo and radiation therapy, Lance is determined to go to school as long as he is physically able. We are trying to make small goals each day and we refuse to accept any predictions or medical statistics. Lance’s primary goal is to finish college. The bigger goals we have for him include getting his ideal job, marrying the girl of his dreams, having children and babysitting his grandchildren. He is fighting valiantly and without any complaints.
I am appealing to everyone in the hopes of supporting Lance and his family as the medical bills will start rolling in. Lance is a full-time student, and his family will not be able to financially afford his ongoing medical and living expenses to fight cancer. With your help, Lance will be able to get urgent, appropriate and ongoing medical treatment to battle this horrific illness. Thank you for your generosity. Your gifts will be deposited to a checking account in the US and will be transferred electronically to Lance’s father's bank account in the Philippines.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have life everlasting (John: 3:16)
