Hi, my name is Liliana Gonzalez, and I’m an incoming Music Performance major at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
I’ve been playing cello for the past 10 years at The People's Music School, a tuition-free program in Chicago. Growing up in a family of first-generation musicians, I developed a deep love for music early on. That love grew even stronger after losing my mom and grandfather in 2021—playing the cello became a source of comfort and healing during that difficult time. It helped me process emotions I couldn’t put into words and confirmed that music is the path I want to follow.
Through The People’s Music School, I studied with David Sands and had the chance to perform with groups like the Lincoln Park High School orchestra under Martin Nocedal, the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra's Accelerando Strings with Daniella Valdez, and the CYSO Kaiso Steel ensemble. These experiences and mentors have been invaluable in shaping me as a musician.
As I take this next step into college, I’m working hard to continue growing musically. To do that, I need a quality cello that matches my level—but the one I’ve been borrowing must be returned. While I’ve been saving and applying for scholarships, I still need help reaching my goal.
Any support—whether through a donation or by sharing this message—would mean the world to me and bring me closer to the instrument I need to succeed.
I’d also love to invite you to my upcoming recital at The People’s Music School on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 3:00 PM. Light refreshments will be provided.
Thank you so much for your support!
