"A Cat Found God" Theatre Fundraiser

Hello, my name is Rachel Kupfer-Weinstein and I am a fourth year Theatre Arts Major at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo! I will be directing the play "A Cat Found God" by Benjamin Sulzberger this coming Fall quarter and we need support to make it happen! Here is a synopsis of this weird, charming, and introspective show:

A Cat Found God follows four young adults who are about to graduate college, or
have just graduated, as they deal with their given circumstances: their house being
ripped off of earth and floating through space. Kim and her cat Felix keep the peace,
indulging in spiritual rituals and reading tarot, while Amy and Chris, currently exes,
argue constantly about Chris’ arrogance and Amy’s penchant for, well, arguing. Gene, the fourth housemate, is the silent type, and, seemingly, doesn’t have much going on, until he “dreams” that Felix walked out of the front door and led him to God. Gene recounts this dream to the group after they discover Felix is missing and everyone discusses. Whether this actually happened or not is never revealed, but it leads to interesting conversation, and an ending that is left up to the audience's interpretation.

I chose this show because I think that I speak for many people when I say that right now is an incredibly uncertain time. Because of this, I find myself wondering about my place in the world and hoping that it is one of importance and value. The characters of this play do the same, and through their conversation with each other, all of their deepest, darkest thoughts about who they are and what that means are exposed. Through this dialogue and opposition, I believe the audience will be able to gain some kind of catharsis. I hope that this play will change people, and help them find their own place in the universe, along with the characters.
The money from this campaign will be used for costumes, set dressing, props, advertisement including the printing of posters and more, all vital parts of this production.
We will begin rehearsing in September of this year, and the show will be put up the first week of December. Thank you so much for your consideration, this show is truly a labor of love and it will not be able to happen without your support!
