Hi, my name is Shamael Syed, and I moved across the country with one suitcase and one dream — to cook in one of the best restaurants in America.

I’m a chef working in Napa Valley, and cooking isn’t just my job, it’s the passion of my life. I didn’t grow up with money or connections. Everything I have, I’ve worked for. Moving here was the biggest leap I’ve ever taken, and working at my current job has been the honor of my life. Every day in that kitchen reminds me why I took the risk, and every moment is more fulfilling than ever.

Recently, I was involved in a car accident that completely totaled my car. Thankfully, I’m okay — but losing my car has put me in a difficult position. Living and working in this area requires reliable transportation, and without it, getting to the restaurant and continuing to pursue my dream is incredibly challenging.

As someone without financial backing or family support to fall back on, this setback has hit hard. I’m doing everything I can but replacing a car is something I can’t do alone right now.

I’m asking for help so I can purchase a reliable used car and continue showing up every day to do what I love. Your support isn’t just helping me buy a vehicle — it’s helping me stay in the kitchen, keep building my career, and continue chasing the dream I sacrificed so much for.
