A Wheelchair-ready Car for Adam Sari

Donation protected

Adam Sari is a 10 year old boy who has a diagnosis of Hallervorden-Spatz syndrome (excess iron in the brain). This is a rare, degenerative neurological disorder that affects the brain and muscles. Adam has recently undergone a gastrostomy due to the dystonia affecting his facial and swallowing muscles making it extremely difficult for him to open his mouth, chew and swallow without choking. Adam is now tube fed for most of his feeds daily.

He lives with 3 younger siblings and his parents, Khaled and Lina.

Due to his unfortunate degeneration, Adam is now electric wheelchair bound.  The constant spasms and stiffness mean that Adam is unable to sit at ease and is constantly reshuffling and adjusting his seating position.   In saying that, Adam requires a modified vehicle that will enable him to travel in his powered wheelchair comfortably.  This will enable Adam to access the community with his family, hospital appointments, school etc.

The calculated amount of $50 000 should be sufficient to purchase a quality vehicle with room for this family of 6, including Adam. A minimum of 7 seats is required as the electric chair consumes approximately 2 seat spaces, with some extra room to put a double pram required for his siblings and further equipment necessary for Adam.
