A Call to Restore Hope Through Education

Hello, my name is Ada.

I am a registered nurse, and today I am reaching out with a heartfelt mission — to raise funds for the renovation and rebuilding of damaged primary school facilities in my community, Umuezeoka, Ebonyi State, Nigeria.

Growing up as a young girl in a rural community in Ebonyi State, life was simple but full of promise. Our village may have been hidden from the wider world, but we had what mattered most — our primary schools and our churches. These were more than buildings. They were safe spaces where we learned, played, formed friendships, and dared to dream.

We looked forward to going to school.
I certainly did.

Those humble classrooms gave us the foundation to understand the world beyond our village, to imagine its vastness, and to envision our place within it.

For many of us, that early education became the gateway to secondary schools across the country and even abroad. For others, the literacy, numeracy, and communication skills gained in those village classrooms opened doors to trades and meaningful careers. Some of us went on to win scholarships and compete academically with students from major cities. I personally benefited from scholarships that supported my education from secondary school through to my Master’s degree.

This is why I firmly believe that education is the gateway to opportunity — whether in the city or the village. Quality foundational education shapes young minds and influences life trajectories. It is no surprise that from the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations continues to emphasize the importance of primary and secondary education as pillars of sustainable development.

Yet despite global progress, millions of children remain out of school each year.

In rural communities like mine, the challenges are complex: political instability, shifting government priorities, inadequate budget allocations for education, rural exclusion in development planning, and migration-driven neglect. Over time, the structures that once supported our dreams have deteriorated.

The painful truth is that many of our community school buildings are now in disrepair.
Classrooms are crumbling. Roofs leak. Walls crack. The very spaces that once shaped generations are failing the children who need them most.

It is heart breaking.
It is unacceptable.
And yet, it is real.

Many of us who began our journeys in those same village schools have gone on to build meaningful lives — as professionals, entrepreneurs, and contributors to the global community. If our modest rural schools could produce so much with so little, imagine what today’s children could achieve with safe, functional learning environments.

Do our younger generations deserve less than we had or better?

This is why I am partnering with the Umuezeoka Town Development Union to mobilize support for urgent repairs and restoration of our community primary school structures. Our goal is simple but powerful: to keep our children in school and to give them safe, dignified spaces to learn and grow.

We understand the current economic realities. Every contribution, no matter the size, is deeply valued and will be transparently applied toward rebuilding classrooms and restoring hope.

I warmly invite individuals, families, community groups, and organizations to join us in this mission.

Together, we can rebuild more than walls — we can rebuild futures.

Please lend a hand.
Help us keep our community schools standing.

Thank you for your generosity and support, it is very much appreciated.
