Since the end of June, Lauren has been in hospice at home. And since Lauren and Suzanne have many friends, family and acquaintances who are eager to offer support in whatever ways we can, we are letting you know now about some needs that have emerged.

As some of you know, a year ago, Lauren was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and in January after grueling rounds of chemo and biopsies, it was found to be metastatic and inoperable. The limited treatment options were considered, and choices were made and Lauren began hospice home care. After some big challenges and canceled plans, the pain management and side effects were settling and Lauren and Suzanne began to enjoy small trips and loving times with friends and around the house. Just when things were feeling relatively easier, Lauren fell and broke her hip mid-June. Surgery followed and Lauren went home to resume hospice care there.

Lauren has been needing 24-hour care at home. Along with Suzanne’s steady, loving attention, a lot of the care is being provided by local friends. They also have some very skilled and kind professional assistance. At this point, the expenses of paid nursing and PCA support are adding up as well as other needs and supports that are not covered by hospice or insurance.

We are creating this fundraiser to try to ease that financial burden and also as a way for some of us to contribute to Lauren and Suzanne’s wellbeing in ways that we each may be able. We are hoping to raise sufficient funds in the next couple weeks. We will all continue to send them lots of love and wishes for ease.
