Today, I’m doing something I never expected. I’m starting a fundraiser to help my late husband’s daughter get back on her feet. I won’t name her here, but I’ll share her story briefly because it’s important.
To give you the short version: Our relationship hasn’t been easy, and there have been legal battles over my late husband's estate. Due to my bankruptcy (which happened because he never paid me the spousal support I was owed), I lost our family home. The trustee is now selling it to cover legal fees and debt. Unfortunately, my husband passed away owing me over $300,000, which I will never see.
Recently, I found out that my stepdaughter is homeless. She was evicted from the family home in February and is now living on the streets. Last Friday, my son received a voicemail from her saying she hadn’t eaten for three days. She asked for food, directing him to a bush next to a Motel 6. My son went to help, bringing her a burrito and food for her dog.
Shocked by her situation, I went to see her myself. When I found her, she was sitting under a bush, exhausted, in pain, and dirty. She’s paraplegic, and the injury she suffered years ago makes it difficult for her to move around. I bought her a one-night stay at the Motel 6 so she could shower and sleep in a bed. I also gave her food, a small tent, and some supplies. She’s currently wait-listed for Section 8 housing and shelters, and it’s clear the system is failing her.
I’ve been there myself. After separating from my husband, I was briefly homeless and slept in my car. It’s a tough reality, one that can happen to anyone.
At this moment, she’s not just someone I’ve had disagreements with. She’s a person in need—someone who hasn’t eaten for days, who’s living on the streets, who needs help, therapy, and support. I'm trying to find a way to get her a truck that’s currently stuck at my late husband’s property. The truck doesn’t run right now, but with some repairs—such as changing the battery and rekeying it—it could provide her with some safety and shelter. The back of the truck even has a camper shell for sleeping.
I’m asking for donations to help her get back on her feet. The funds will be used to repair the truck, provide temporary shelter when possible, and cover expenses like food and transportation.
I’m also asking for prayers for those who believe in the power of prayer. Anything you can offer—whether financial or spiritual—is deeply appreciated.
Thank you to anyone willing to support her during this difficult time.
