A Call for Help for Our Mama Shirley
Donativo protegido
Our beloved Mama Shirley spent nearly four months with us in Canada. Even though she arrived during the cold season, she still enjoyed her time with us. We tried to convince her to stay longer, maybe six months or even a year, so she could experience all four seasons, but she had already made up her mind. She wanted to be back home in time for our Dad’s death anniversary on February 8, 2025. So, Janice(daughter) booked her a flight right away, and she returned to the Philippines on January 30, 2025.
The time and weather change took a toll on her, and it took a few days for her to adjust. Then, on February 7, the day before our Dad’s anniversary, something we never expected happened. While having breakfast with family, Mama Shirley suddenly collapsed. My brother and sister rushed her to the nearest hospital(Almora), where she underwent tests and scans.
The 1st diagnosis was:
“Cardiac arrest”
Given the severity of her condition, we transferred her to St. Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao, where more tests were conducted. It was later confirmed that she had suffered a severe stroke.
A team of doctors carefully assessed her situation, and after thorough discussions, they strongly recommended an emergency craniotomy (open skull surgery) within 72 hours. This procedure was necessary to relieve the pressure in her brain and prevent further damage due to swelling.
Placing our full trust in the doctors and believing in what was best for Mama Shirley, we made the difficult decision to proceed with the surgery.
This has been an incredibly tough time for our family, both emotionally and financially. We never expected this to happen, and we were not prepared for the overwhelming medical expenses.
That’s why, with humble hearts, we are reaching out for any help you may be able to give. No amount is too small—anything would mean the world to us as we try to provide the best care for Mama Shirley.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. If you can’t donate, we completely understand—prayers and well wishes mean just as much.
God bless us all.
