A brutal and random attack on my 84 year old mother
Donation protected
11 months ago, my 84 year old mother was on her daily morning walk in downtown Windsor when she was struck in the head from behind. She survived due to 2 passer-bys who yelled at the attacker. He fled, was caught and spent some time in jail.

During the past 11 months, she has been cared for at home by her son, his wife and 3 children. It has been an extremely challenging time and everyone has tried so very hard to make it all work.
2 surgeries to release pressure on her brain, 2 rehab admittances and multiple emergency room visits and hospital stays have kept her alive - switching between cognition problems and mobility issues. While the family is all hopeful that this last surgery will ‘bring her back’, it is a slow process.
Long term care facilities have triple the number of people waiting vs in the beds. It is uncertain as to whether she will be able to return home to a ‘normal life’ after this current rehab stay.
Her life was dedicated to her faith in God, and helping others. She volunteered with the Downtown Windsor Community Collaborative to aid the homeless in Windsor and spent many years in Cambodia as a missionary nurse educating students.
This attack was a brutal and terrible incident that has taken so much away from her. From being an active individual contributing to society, she has spent the last year in emergency rooms, ORs and rehab facilities.
This fundraiser is to raise some money for immediate emergencies, i.e. legal costs, private long term care respite options and support for the family taking care of her in the absence of any long term care bed availability.
Thank you for reading this and any support is appreciated.
