INTRO
A Brother’s Duty is a FAMILY COURTROOM drama about love, resilience, and the unbreakable bond between siblings in the face of manipulation and loss.
My name is Ben Faulkner, I am a film and tv student at Bond University and I wrote this film to share a story which was influenced by real-life experiences. It reflects on adjusted stories of family conflict, misunderstanding, and the quiet strength it takes to stand up for what’s right. Writing A Brother’s Duty was a way for me to process those memories and turn pain into purpose. Writing a story with a message for those who display similar struggles, courage, and hope I’ve experienced firsthand.

STORY
Bailey Fritt is a nineteen-year-old university student who has always found strength in his close bond with his father, Nathan and his little sister Harley. Since his parents separated, Bailey has lived under his father’s roof alongside his stepmother, Denise, who presented herself as caring to the outside world but showed a very different, cruel side behind closed doors. Through it all, Bailey’s love for Harley never wavered, and she became the light in a home shadowed by manipulation.
When Denise files for divorce, she seeks full custody of Harley and plans to move interstate, tearing her away from Bailey and Nathan. Refusing to lose the girl who means everything to them, father and son take the fight to court. There, Bailey is forced to relive the abuse and deception of his childhood as he testifies about Denise’s behaviour toward him and the way she now treats Harley. Denise, however, delivers a powerful and convincing case as Harley’s mother, leaving Bailey fearful that they are about to lose. But in a dramatic turn, the judge is swayed, and equal custody is granted, ensuring Harley remains with both her father and brother.
