Hello, I am Mike Lyons. A great friend, Father of three beautiful kids, and brother was taken too quickly from us last year. Jason Reams my dearest friend was called up to the heavens to watch over us. Jason had worked by my side for almost 20 years. The days we spent together always brought life lasting memories and the best times for so many of us. He was a solid topper on outfishing me on a regular basis. Jason and I traversed so much land and water through the years, bringing in some beautiful fish.
Jason had really battled quite the fight in his last years. Jason's love for Family had sent for his mom to come back home from Tulsa and live with him. Jason provided her with a nice home where they lived, above 698 Roadhouse Restaurant. Things were good and life was fun. However a devastating fire destroyed the Restaurant as well as Jason's home taking everything he and his mother owned. A lifetime of photos and childhood memories were lost in the blink of an eye. His mom and little dog barely escaping the fire. I remember the hurt he felt from this. Weeks later Jason was telling me his side was hurting and we discussed he should have it looked at. Days later Jason tells me he has Sarcoma Cancer. He confined in me how his #1 worry was leaving his kids and not seeing them grow up, get married, and show them things. Jason had so many things he still wanted to see and do. Soon Cancer had went from a softball size mass to a bowling ball size mass in just a few months. Jay tried so hard to beat this thing, he really fought. Jason's Family and kids Hailey, Jason (Bubbs), and Jackson had continued to bring my friend strength and kept him somehow with a smile on his face until his last days. At 38 year's old on September 7, 2022 we said goodbye and I gave Jay one more bro handshake and a till we meet again brother. A piece of the heart breaks and gets taken away when you lose a good friend.
That Fall I embarked on a journey to name a Bridge after him crossing his favorite fishing spot. After some design, many talks, and attending some meetings. In turn meeting some great people that helped me make this come to life. We were granted permission to name the Bridge crossing over Elk Creek's most cherished fishing spot. On Elk Park Rd heading out of Lake City the bridge crossing Elk will be known as Jason Reams Memorial Bridge. His name and memory will be listed on maps and be known throughout the steelhead fisherman world in memory of our Friend, Dad, and Brother Jason Reams. His Memory will live on and because of this all happening so quick, Jason couldn't be given a place for us all to say not only goodbye but also a hello. We can all find a special place for him by going down to "his bridge" and talking to him there and seeing fish being caught for generations to come.
Money raised will pay for the sign to be made by Voss Signs in Ohio. The sign will span the North and South side of the Bridge measuring 16 feet long by approx 2 feet tall. Visible while fishing both sides. We are still are in talks with an installer. Any further money after the sign will go directly to Jason's kids. He loved them so much and and they are so young to have to endure this. We will show them they are not alone. I know Jason will thank you from above.
R.I.P. Jay.
