A Breath For Jeff

It is with great sadness that our beloved dad passed away on Jan 12th. He transitioned in peace holding our hands. Thank for all of the kind and outpouring support during this incredibly difficult month.
UPDATE: Thank you all for your continued prayers and well wishes for me and @carleneswetz dad. He has fought miraculously hard over the past few months, and that wouldn’t have been possible without all your thoughts and prayers, so thank you.
We’ve come to learn there is a fine line when determining whether or not someone is a transplant candidate, and unfortunately his pulmonary fibrosis has progressed too aggressively over the past months where the doctors don’t believe he would make a full recovery. Although this isn’t the news we wanted, he has the absolute best doctors and nurses and is surrounded by a loving and supportive team who equally gave it their all. He will continue to fight to his absolute last breath but I wanted to send an update to the vast army behind him & thank you all again. You are in his heart.
And how lucky are @carleneswetz and I to have hit the Daddio jackpot!
Original Post: For about six years our dad, Jeff, has been graciously and silently battling Pulmonary Fibrosis. On November 18th, 2021 dad began to rapidly decline and after 11 days in the hospital we received some tough news.

Dad needs a double lung transplant this year. An average double lung transplant costs $1.2M- $2.6M. It's a large, horse-sized pill to swallow, but when you have no choice you persevere and that is what we will do. Though we are still waiting to see if dad is a candidate, we are hoping for the best as that is the only option. Dad and Elaine are back home in Maine working to slowly regain his strength, but walking and normal day to day activities still make it hard for him to breathe on his own. He will need equipment to make him more comfortable at home getting around the house, as well as Physical Therapy. He will continue to receive treatment in Maine and will be traveling to Mass General as well for various tests. Funds raised here will go towards all of these costs, travel expenses, and out of pocket expenses that are outside of insurance coverage.
We could write novels about our dad, but will keep it short... he is truly the best.

We will continue to update on his situation here,
