A Brave Boy

From his amazing Mama: Please pray for our sweet Declan. Monday evening Declan began complaining of leg pain. We chalked it up to growing pains and continued on. By Friday he was still adamant he was in pain and hardly able to walk so we took him to his pediatrician. They immediately sent us to Norton’s Women and Children for more testing. We left there with not much info other than he was just growing at a rapid rate and if he’s still in pain come Monday, come back. By Saturday afternoon things changed quickly. He began to complain of arm pain and he was no longer able to move his mouth or facial muscles. We took him straight to Norton’s downtown and within minutes we had a team of doctors surrounding him and us. He failed a reflex test and a breathing test. While he was breathing on his own at the moment, they were concerned he would not be in the near future. Declan is currently sedated and on a ventilator in the ICU. Experiencing this is a fear I cannot explain. To see our healthy 6 year old laying here, looking lifeless is not something I ever imagined we would be going through.

As of this morning we received an official diagnosis of Guillain-Barré syndrome. This looks to be a lengthy hospital stay for our big guy but we couldn’t ask to be in better hands. Everyone here has been so incredible. Pray he makes a full recovery soon and we get to go home. I cannot wait to hear that big laugh and be annoyed with him kicking a ball around the house. This all feels like a dream. I just want my baby awake and healthy.
