If you know Antoinette, chances are, you love her. If you've ever only met her, chances are, you like her. She has made such an impact on the lives of so many people both professionally and personally. Her spirit and kindness has a way of reaching anyone she has encountered. Many, like myself, have been blessed by her story of strength and perseverance, her passion for advocating for students with disabilities, the unwavering faith of her prayers or the warmth and comfort of her hugs. Her love and compassion for people, even strangers, is remarkable. I say all this because it is difficult to see challenging times fall upon even the most beautiful of souls.
Fifteen years ago, my friend Antoinette lost her husband. She has since raised their two daughters on her own. These two amazing young ladies are truly a reflection of their mother. While in college, her youngest became ill just over two years ago while studying in New York. After several emergency room visits and an extended hospital stay, it was determined that the then 19 year old, was battling an autoimmune disease that even the country's top physicians have yet to find a conclusive treatment for. Since then, she has seen over a dozen specialists and received a long list of possible diagnoses including Common Variable Immunodeficiency, Seronegative Rheumatoid Arthritis, Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, Elher Danlos Syndrome, Cerebrospinal Fluid leak, Gastroperisis, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, Chronic migraines and more!
Since 2019, there have been countless trips to hospitals, medical clinics and doctor offices with the hopes of finding a treatment for this rare and mysterious disorder. Naturally, Antoinette has been caring for her (now 20 year old) daughter day and night to combat this unknown illness that has completely turned their life upside down. A bright, healthy, ambitious young lady that was thriving in a prestigious university just a short while ago is now fighting daily for her physical and mental health. As any mother could empathize, this has been extremely challenging for Antoinette.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Antoinette and her daughter have been required to truly quarantine and keep a safe distance from all friends and family. As many of us are venturing back out into the world, Antoinette and her daughter do not have such a luxury and have remained quarantined as her doctors have emphasized that any contracted virus could be especially life threatening.
Due to the number of hospital visits, specialist fees and now being unable to physically go to work because of the mandatory quarantine and 24 hour care that is required...ANY financial assistance would be greatly appreciated. I know my friend and she would never ask for help. Hospital bills, expensive treatment options, special dietary restrictions, medical home visits and more have been incredibly taxing. As a special education teacher, it is no secret that money is tight. It is my goal to lighten her burden even if just financially as she continues to be strong for her daughters, herself and those watching that may be in a similar situation.
I am witnessing my amazing sister friend do her best to stay positive in the midst of this truly difficult time. Please help us keep our friend going. We have a goal but any amount helps. If you can't help financially, we believe in the power of prayer and would appreciate your prayers as well!
If you are unsure of the validity of this or have questions, please reach out. I'm happy to answer any questions!
They have also seen many specialists across the country, and are still looking for answers and treatment. Please please please share and spread the word!
