Today April 1 is my birthday, and I wanted to do something a little different.
In December, my mother-in-law, Linda Volk, left us way too soon. It’s been a really difficult loss for our family, and not a day goes by that I don’t think of her.
During her final days, the Palliative Care Unit at Unity and District Health Center showed her, and all of us, so much kindness, love, and compassion. It meant more than I can really put into words. This unit relies on donations to be able to provide this space for local families to use in times of need.
So for my birthday, I want to give back in her memory.
Instead of gifts, I’m asking for donations to support the Unity and District Health Center Palliative Care Unit that cared for her. Their kind steady support, special efforts, and the room with adjoining kitchenette was critical for our large family being able to spend all the time we could there with her. Having these resources available made a world of difference.
If you’re able, you can donate here to this GoFundMe, as the hospital doesn't have an official direct donation link. I will then write and mail a check to them for the full amount donated, in memory of Linda. And I will post it on Facebook to share so everyone knows it really happened.
There’s absolutely no pressure at all - just sharing this means a lot. But if you do choose to give, thank you for helping us honor Linda and continue her legacy of always giving back.
