A biking accident has left me with a broken neck..
_________________________________________________________________________________________
I was in a severe and traumatic C2 vertebrae fracture (known as a Hangman's Fracture) while mountain bike riding
which has left me in a halo traction and mounting medical and physiotherapy bills.
Not to mention a whole lot of anxiety for both myself and my parents,
I ask for your donations to support my mother and to help with my recovery hopefully making me feel normal again :)
In honour of my mother who the entirety of this fundraising campaign will be going to.
I'm making the goal $60,666 after her birth date which is the 6th of June, 1966.
My mum is a retired nurse and has had to basically quit her current job to now become my full time carer, working around
the clock to make sure Im happy and healthy.
Washing, feeding, dressing my wounds and medicating me when necessary.
Something I thought i'd have to do for her some day and something a son never
wishes upon a parent to have to do.
So to go with the spirit of my brush with death I only thought the "number of the beast" would be a fitting goal to choose and
with the uncanny coincidence that it's also my mothers birthday.
Have also been feeling like a bit of a beast at the moment. These pain meds are no joke.
Recovery is my main focus.

(Full Story)
Last week (20/7/2020). I was on a pleasant bike ride with my girlfriend and we decided to go down to the local Yarra River bike
trails. A frequented spot by both biking and trail running enthusiasts alike due to its close proximity to the city of Melbourne and
the low difficulty of its trails.
While we were riding I went down a hill on a pretty old bike with sketchy breaks to say the least and lost control.
I was tossed from my bike, hitting my head directly on the ground and causing a major fracture of my C2 vertebrae.
My girlfriend was next to me when the accident happened and she swiftly called 000. But I wasn't in very good shape.
I started to have a seizure and began foaming at the mouth, gasping for air
but she didn't move me, kept me stable and alive and even coordinating other passer-bys.
I owe her my life.
Luckily a local spinal hospital was not too far off and the paramedics arrived on the scene in under ten minutes.
As they rushed me to hospital I couldn't feel a thing below my neckline and I was in incredible pain.
By some miracle I didn't sever my spinal cord and die that day.
Someone out there was looking out for me.
Once I got to the hospital I was told by a myriad of nurses I was one of the lucky few to be alive and still have movement in my
lower body.
I can still walk and talk and am hellishly sore.
It's going to be a long journey to full recovery.
I was told they wouldn't be able to perform spinal fusion surgery because of the proximity of the fracture to my spinal cord and
the risk that it might leave me paralysed. So I underwent emergency halo gravity traction surgery instead.
So now I look like Regina George from "Mean Girls" and I am now feeling very sorry for myself.
Thank you for taking the time to read my full story and I hope that everyone is staying safe in these unprecedented times.
Hug your loved ones and always wear a helmet. It saved my life.
If you would like to donate to my cause to help my mother who is my number one role model it would be very much appreciated.
P.S
I've been told my recovery period will take around a year and I will post regular up-dates of my hopeful success.
