UPDATE June 2: We have successfully raised enough money for Daniel's bike ($13,000)! We're going to continue the campaign for those who have not yet had the opportunity to donate. Daniel is shopping today for a car with special adaptive equipment. All additional donated funds will help him with that purchase, which is expected to cost about $50,000. Either way, you are helping Daniel get out of the house and move around.
When Daniel was paralyzed in a skiing accident last December, we all wanted to help and asked what we could do.
Here is something you can do to help Daniel! We are raising funds for Daniel to buy a special bike that will permit him to get back outdoors and exercise his legs.
Daniel has made amazing progress adapting to his new situation, yet he and Lisa are still adjusting to their "new normal." They have had to renovate their house in Hancock, New Hampshire to make it wheelchair accessible. Daniel is now shopping for a special car that he will be able to drive himself. He expects the car will cost approximately $50,000.
The cost of the bike that he wants is a challenge for Daniel. Relative to other needed purchases, the bike could be perceived as a luxury -- but not when you consider it is the only way he will be able move around outdoors aside from patrolling Main Street in his wheelchair. This bike is Daniel's ticket to ride -- again.
The bike is called a Berkel Bike Pro and it is the only bike of its kind in the world. It's a recumbent bike that Daniel can operate with his hands. It's a three-wheeler with an electric power assist. What is truly special about this is that Daniel can work out his legs on the bike. The bike uses electric signal to stimulate the muscles in his legs. He can actually pedal the bike! In bad weather he can use the bike indoors as a trainer. Here is the link to the bike Daniel wants
