Shannon's Story:

Shannon was diagnosed with cervical cancer two years ago. During her treatment, she suffered through two types of radiation and chemotherapy. Initially doctors thought this was working because her tumor was shrinking. However, her last Pepscan has revealed that this cancer has metastasized to her lungs. As a result, she has started a rigorous treatment of four different types of chemotherapy. After multiple surgeries she now has two urostomy pouches and a colostomy pouch. Four months ago, her prognosis was one to five years, assuming the chemo works.

Shannon has always been a selfless, caring person. She always puts others before herself, giving to anyone who had a need. Her smile can light up a room. She has worked hard to provide for her children, who are now grown. Shannon has always dreamed of owning her own home, but renting was her only option. Currently, her living conditions are terrible due to her inability to work since her diagnosis.

Her current rental is a trailer that was supposed to be demolished due to its deteriorating conditions, but she appealed to its owner as she had no other available options. The trailer is without hot water, is covered with mold and mildew, one of the ceilings has a large leak, and the floors are threatening to fall in. Shannon can't navigate through her home in her wheelchair, and the conditions aggravate her already poor health. Unfortunately, she has to live in these horrible conditions, but it is also embarrassing when her healthcare providers come and offer her in-home assistance.

I am asking for help getting her into a better living arrangement to feel the pride and comfort of homeownership during this last stage of her life. This money will be used as a down payment for this dream while she can still enjoy it. We continue to pray for longevity; however, time is not on her side. I would love nothing more than for her to feel a sense of security during her last days on earth.
