Hello, this is Kelby Fassiotto. I'm one of the assistant coaches at La Veta High School in La Veta, CO. My dad and I (Coach Fozz, as he is known in the baseball world) started the program in 2021 after 8 years of no baseball in the area.
When we set out to start the program in 2021, the field was completely unplayable. Boarded-up restrooms, rotted trash, and more covered the facilities. My dad and I, along with other coaches and community members, started working on the field, building new mounds, fixing the batting cages, etc.
We were able to get it playable and had the first game in nearly a decade in the spring of 2021. During the past few years, we have had an unbelievable amount of support to grow baseball in the area. Now, we have over 100 kids from T-ball through high school from a town of roughly 500. Showing and teaching the game of baseball to kids who would have never been given that opportunity has been a life-changing experience, and one I will always be grateful for.
We all have put our blood, sweat, and tears into this field and our players. However, without much funding, we have been unable to make it the place these kids deserve.
Now, I'm taking on a small project every day to bring it back to life. With your help, we can give this town something they can be proud of and a place for kids to grow for decades to come.
