A Ben Chair for The Tan Hill Inn

My son, Trooper Ben Hugh Healy, was only 20 years old when he took his own life on the 26th January 2020.

The lives of us, his family and friends, were left shattered. Ben had an immense personality and presence and we feel his loss every moment of every day.

We vowed that we would honour Ben and his memory by helping those who believe suicide is their only option when struggling with their mental health. Spare 10 for Ben was founded in March 2020 and myself and his elder brother, Liam, worked tirelessly completing globally recognised training with Papyrus, along with many other courses around Self-Harm, Suicide and Mental Health Conditions. I am currently studying Counselling and will continue to develop my skills.

Alongside this, we completed many fundraising activities to install a series of benches, "Ben Chairs" which promote the message that there is always someone who cares and to spark conversations around mental health and suicide. We encourage those who sit on the Ben Chairs to spend 10 minutes practicing some self-care and also to connect with those whom they believe may be struggling.

Ben stayed at The Tan Hill Inn when his regiment completed the Coast to Coast. He face timed me several times, raving about the Inn and it's setting.

After speaking to Nicola who manages The Tan Hill Inn, she very kindly spoke to the owner on our behalf, regarding the possibility of having a Ben Chair installed at The Inn.

Thankfully, the owner was onboard with the idea, hence this latest fundraiser.

We believe that many people will benefit from a Ben Chair being sited at the Tan Hill Inn, as the area is a place where many people visit for rest and reflection.
