Cancer Sucks. Alison Doesn't: Help Her Kick It's Ass!

Spende geschützt
Hi friends—this is Kimberly, writing on behalf of my best friend, Alison.

Alison was recently diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. She’s facing surgery, likely chemotherapy, and the long, overwhelming path of healing. She’s meeting it the way she meets everything: with grounded resilience, sharp humor, and a whole lot of love for the people around her.

Alison is a single mom to two incredible kids, and she shows up for them in every way imaginable—even when she’s running on fumes. She’s the kind of person who gives her last ounce of energy to others, without asking for anything in return.

She’s also someone who has spent years pouring into her community. During the height of the pandemic, she created and hosted a weekly front porch concert series called 528 Live—every Saturday for a year and a half. It wasn’t just music; it was medicine for the soul. Neighbors gathered (distanced but connected), musicians got to play when gigs disappeared, and people regularly approached her in tears, saying how much it meant to feel that kind of togetherness. She never made a cent doing it. In fact, it cost her money every week. But she kept showing up, because that’s who she is.

Now, she could use some of that love and support in return.

Alison’s medical team has mapped out a long road ahead: she’ll undergo a lumpectomy on June 10th, followed by a waiting period for pathology results to determine if chemotherapy is needed. If so, she’ll begin a six-month chemo regimen, followed by several weeks of radiation. After that, she will face extensive breast restoration surgery using the flap procedure involving the muscle and tissue in her abdomen. It’s a lot—and it’s all happening while she’s still showing up every day as a mom, a friend, and a fighter.

While she does have health insurance (thankfully), there are still out-of-pocket costs that aren’t covered—deductibles, co-pays, lost income from time off work, and the countless things that make life a little softer and more manageable during treatment. Our goal with this fundraiser is to give Alison the space to rest, to heal, and to stay focused on what matters most: her health and her kids.

If you’re able to donate, thank you. If not, sharing this or simply holding her in your thoughts means just as much.

Let’s show up for someone who has spent her whole life showing up for others.
