Honoring Mikaya: A Headstone for Her Memory
Donation protected
My daughter Mikaya Berry, lovingly known as Kaya Bear, was a bright, talented, and kind young woman who touched the lives of everyone she met. At just 20 years old, she was finding her independence—working hard, building a life in Bedford, and dreaming of her future. Mikaya’s beautiful singing voice and her gentle, loving spirit made her unforgettable to her friends and family. She grew up in Avon, and though moving to a new town was a big step, she embraced it with courage and hope.
On Labor Day 2024, my world changed forever when I learned that Mikaya had passed away. She had struggled with addiction but was working hard to manage it through rehab and therapy. Her loss has left a hole in our hearts, and nearly a year later, we are still trying to find ways to honor her memory. After buying our first home just a month before her passing, our family has faced many challenges—unexpected expenses, caring for Mikaya’s brother who has Down Syndrome, and doing our best to support our other children. Despite saving what we could, we need help to give Mikaya the headstone she deserves.
We want to place a beautiful upright headstone for Mikaya, designed with a heart and angel, made of dark stone that sparkles in the sun. It will feature her picture, her birth and death dates, and the inscription: “Her song continues in our hearts.” This will be a place where her many friends and loved ones can remember her and see her smile. Any support will help us create a lasting tribute to Mikaya’s life and the love she shared with so many. Thank you for helping us keep her memory alive.
