A battle with aneurysm

My story? It’s not special. It won’t be something you haven’t heard of. It might not even be a story that you will remember for a long time. Despite this, I hope you’ll still lend me a few minutes of your time to tell you the most important story that I will probably tell the world. The only story that matters to me right now.

It’s a story about my mom fighting for her life.

My mom Ma. Nenita (Monette), I’ve always looked up to her. I knew how hard she and my dad worked to make sure they are able to provide my siblings and I a good and comfortable life. Growing up, my motivation was for me to be able to give back to my parents what they had selflessly given me, or even more than that.

Coming here to study and work in Australia as a nurse was probably the biggest sacrifice my mother had given to me, in the hopes of a good future. This was a big sacrifice for her not just financially, but also emotionally since I’d have to be thousands of miles away from our family.

I was only starting to give back when something tragic happened.

My mom visited me here in Australia. I was able to show her around, making her feel that all of her sacrifices have paid off. The trip was going great but on July 22nd, she started complaining of a severe headache. It was so bad she could hardly move. Thinking it was just a bad headache due to the cold weather, she didn’t go to a doctor until the 3rd day insisting that it would eventually go away as it usually does. On the way home after the appointment and the MRI, she was contacted by the police and ambulance and was rushed to the Emergency Department. MRI result showed she has Brain Aneurysm. Two brain aneurysms. She was then admitted to the High Dependency Unit (HDU) of the Neuroscience ward and after more diagnostic tests, it was found out that the aneurysm on the right side of the brain had already ruptured. It all came in a blur, I just found myself outside the operating room as she needs to undergo a delicate surgery (Craniotomy and clipping of aneurysm) immediately. After the surgery, my mom stayed in the ICU for several days. The one on the left side is still waiting on a decision of the treating team. She is now stable enough to stay in the HDU again and is still closely monitored.

I am grateful that, unlike others, my mom was given a chance to fight. And in fighting this battle, I am with her all the way. However, because I have only started my life here in Australia, I do not have the resources yet to support my mom in this battle on my own. This is why I am knocking on your hearts, humbly asking for your help through prayers and donations. My mom came here on tourist visa and the insurance that she got is still currently on a waiting period, hence, she won’t be able to claim anything. It breaks my heart that in spite of all the sacrifices my mom had done for us, she still has to go through this. It really is agonizing seeing my mom so weak and fragile after all the years that she’s been so tough in order to raise us her children. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much. -Nikki
